DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is an email validation system used to confirm that an email has been sent by an authenticated server or person. A digital signature is added to the email’s header using a private encryption key. When the email is received, a public key that’s available in the global DNS database is used to validate who actually sent it and if the content has been altered in any way. The main task of DKIM is to block the widespread scam and spam email messages, as it makes it impossible to fake an email address. If an email message is sent from an address claiming to belong to your bank, for instance, but the signature does not match, you will either not get the email message at all, or you will get it with a warning that most probably it’s not legitimate. It depends on email service providers what exactly will happen with an email that fails to pass the signature check. DomainKeys Identified Mail will also give you an additional layer of safety when you communicate with your business partners, for instance, as they can see that all the e-mail messages that you exchange are authentic and haven’t been meddled with in the meantime.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Cloud Hosting

If you host a domain in a cloud hosting account from our company, all the obligatory records for using the DomainKeys Identified Mail option will be created by default. This will happen the moment you add the domain name in the Control Panel’s Hosted Domains section, provided that the domain also uses our NS resource records. A private cryptographic key will be created on our mail servers, whereas a public key will be published to the DNS system automatically by using the TXT record. Thus, you will not have to do anything manually and you will be able to enjoy all the benefits of this email authentication system – your email messages will be sent to any audience without being rejected and nobody will be able to send emails faking your email addresses. The latter is really important if the type of your Internet presence suggests sending periodic newsletters or offers via email to prospective and existing customers.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Our Linux semi-dedicated hosting come with DKIM activated by default, so in case you pick a semi-dedicated hosting package and you add a domain name using our name servers through your Hepsia Control Panel, the records required for the validation system will be set up automatically – a private cryptographic key on our email servers for the electronic signature and a TXT resource record carrying the public key for the Domain Name System. As the DKIM protection is set up for a particular domain, all e-mail addresses created using it will have a signature, so you will not need to worry that the email messages that you send may not be delivered to their destination email address or that someone may fake any of your addresses and attempt to spam/scam people. This may be very important in case you rely on electronic communication in your business, since your colleagues and/or clients will be able to distinguish genuine email messages from forged ones.
