Dot NAME Domains

Introduced in 2001, the .NAME generic extension is the only one planned for personal web pages only. These domain names can include personal or fictitious names, nicknames and/or other designations people are popular by. Initially, just 3rd-level registrations were allowed, so if you desired to obtain john.doe.name, you had to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were liberalized and 2nd-level registrations were also permitted. Already bought third-level names remained online.
